What Your Summer first aid Kit Should Contain

Although the summer holidays are well underway, there will be several weeks to go before the new school term starts, which means if you have children there will be lots to do to keep them occupied over the weeks ahead.

Ideally, they should not be spending their time indoors watching TV but being active, not least as anything they do see on the box should include events like the Commonwealth Games as well as England’s recent triumph in the Women’s European Championships. Parents of girls may find they have suddenly developed an interest in football.

However, while playing outdoors and being adventurous can be a lot of fun, it can inevitably mean bumps and scrapes, falls and collisions, all of which means it’s very important to have a first aid kit to hand.

The key thing to do is ensure that the first aid kit contents include everything you need, which means a lot more than just sticking plasters and finger bandages.

For example, alcohol-free wipes and antiseptic ointment should be there for any nasty scrapes, especially anything that comes into contact with dirt. Distilled water should also be there for cleaning wounds.

When it comes to plasters, don’t just have a few standard oblong-shaped ones, because injuries can occur in various places and may require different shapes to cover the wound properly and stay in place.

Eye wash will also be needed for anything they might get in their eyes, while junior Paracetamol or similar painkillers suitable for children will also be needed.

Of course, you should not rely on the first aid kit to do everything. If a wound is serious and might need stitches, a head clash cause concussion or an impact produce a suspected fracture, it is important to seek professional medical attention.

For the most part, however, a first aid kit will be just the thing to help patch kids up and enable them to get back outside having fun again.
